MotorcycleHound.com : Sales : Sitting Down With a Salesperson
Don’t sit down at the salesperson’s desk until you have chosen the right unit for you. Then:
- If the salesperson tries to make you sit down without finding the bike you want first, find another salesperson.
- Make sure to ask questions
- Sit on at least 3 bikes
- Take a picture of yourself on the bike
- Check out all the accessories and gear that you want, create a package.
- Know the MSRP of the unit you are looking at.
- Have an idea of what you want to pay and what payment that you can afford. See the payment section under Finance.
- Be relaxed - the salesperson wants and needs to sell you this motorcycle as much as you want to buy it.
- See what the Out the door price is with all taxes and fees at MSRP. You can estimate that on this site using our payment calculators.
- Know what the manufacturer’s rebates and incentives are, but ask the salesperson to check those for you.
- Make your offer after the manufacturer’s rebates and incentives have been taken off.
The salesperson’s job is to get a signed offer to buy from you, then it is the Sales Manager’s job to decide whether or not it is a good deal for the dealership. Don’t be discouraged if they don’t meet your offer. They need to make money on the deal, some more than others. If you think it is fair, and this is the bike you want, then take it. If not, stick to your guns or look at another bike.
Know whether or not you are going to finance or pay cash. If you are going to finance, know what your credit looks like and what you can qualify for.
Make sure that you meet the Sales Manager before you leave and let him know how the experience. Also, meet the Service writers and the parts counter people. You want a person to come back to when you have questions and needs. The salesperson should do this for you, but if they don’t, meet them yourself.
